SEO services for small businesses

SEO is how your business gets found in Google without paying for every click. It’s also the foundation AI search is built on, because AI Overviews and assistants draw on the pages search engines already trust. I handle every part of it, from the technical fixes to the 12-month plan.

SEO is not a channel you switch on when the ads get expensive. It is the compounding part of a search strategy, and it is slowest to start for exactly that reason.

What SEO covers

SEO for a small business is the work of making sure Google can find, understand and trust your site, and that the pages people search for actually exist and answer the question well. In practice that means technical health, well-structured pages, useful content, structured data and a plan that puts effort where it pays.

It isn’t a one-off job. Google changes, competitors publish and sites drift, so the most useful SEO is steady and measured: fix what’s broken, build what’s missing, and track what’s working.

Who it’s for

These services suit UK small businesses, start-ups and medium businesses whose website matters to sales or enquiries. They work especially well if:

  • traffic has dropped and nobody can tell you why
  • you rank on page two for the searches that matter most
  • competitors with worse products are outranking you
  • you’ve never had a proper look at the technical side of your site
  • you want a plan rather than a monthly list of tweaks

What I often find on small business sites

The same handful of problems turn up again and again, whatever the platform:

  • Pages Google can’t or won’t index, often because of a stray noindex tag, a canonical pointing somewhere else, or thin pages Google doesn’t think are worth keeping
  • Duplicate versions of the same page, with and without trailing slashes, tracking parameters or filter settings, splitting the signals between them
  • Redirect chains and broken links left behind by old site changes
  • Titles and descriptions that are missing, duplicated, cut off in search results, or generated automatically from the first line of the page
  • Category and service pages with almost no content, competing against rivals who explain far more
  • Structured data that’s missing, invalid, or describes things that aren’t visible on the page
  • Slow mobile pages, usually from oversized images and too many scripts

None of these are glamorous, and most can be fixed without a rebuild. They’re often the fastest route to better visibility, because they stop good pages being held back.

How an SEO engagement usually runs

Most SEO work follows the same shape. It starts with an audit and a look at your Search Console data to establish where you stand. From that comes a prioritised plan: technical fixes first, then the pages and content that will make the biggest difference, then the ongoing work of building visibility and authority.

Each month you get a report showing what’s been done, what’s changed in your search visibility, and what’s next. The plan is reviewed as the data comes in, so effort moves to whatever’s working.

SEO results

The strongest SEO results I’ve worked on come from content and technical work together:

  • FalseEyelashes.co.uk: 31.5 million impressions and 218,604 clicks in the last 12 months, with 791 search terms in Google’s top three
  • condoms.uk: 17 million impressions and 204,121 clicks, with 388 top-three terms
  • Tribera Living: an SEO audit and content strategy for student accommodation and coliving in Europe

Talk to the person doing the work

There is no account manager here and no team to be handed to. If you get in touch, it is me who reads it, me who looks at your site, and me who does the work if we go ahead.

How the work gets done

Much of the analysis runs through tools I’ve built or adapted, so my time goes into decisions rather than data pulling. The site audit system runs specialist technical checks side by side, the Search Console audit tool analyses your real Google data, and the schema toolkit validates and generates structured data. Every finding is checked by me before it reaches you.

SEO also connects to the rest of your search presence. Most clients pair it with AI search visibility or content.

Where to start

If you’re not sure what your site needs, a free assessment shows where you stand and the three things I’d fix first. If you already know you need a full picture, start with the technical SEO audit.

FAQ

How long does SEO take to work?

Technical fixes and better titles can show up in Search Console within a few weeks, once Google recrawls the pages. Content and authority usually take several months to build. How long it takes depends on your site’s starting point and your competitors, so I don’t promise timescales, but monthly reporting shows what’s moving.

Do I still need SEO now AI search exists?

Yes. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on pages from its search index, and AI assistants lean on well-established, trusted sites. The technical health, structure and useful content that SEO builds are what make your pages eligible to be shown and cited in AI answers in the first place.

What’s the difference between a free assessment and a technical SEO audit?

The free assessment is a short first look at your biggest issues and opportunities, summarised in plain English. A technical SEO audit crawls the whole site, checks every template in depth, and ends with a prioritised action plan and developer-ready briefs your team or mine can work straight from.

Can you guarantee first place on Google?

No, and anyone who does is guessing. Google doesn’t sell rankings, and results depend on competitors, updates and things outside anyone’s control. What I can promise is careful, well-prioritised work, checked data and clear reporting, so you can see exactly what’s being done and what it’s achieving.
