Buying fine jewellery is rarely an impulse. People research diamonds, metals, sizes and meanings long before they buy, and the jewellers who answer those questions well earn attention early. My main work in this sector is for Kwiat, a New York fine jeweller with 120 years of history, whose site generated 9.3 million impressions and 55,410 clicks from Google in the past 12 months.
The search challenges jewellers and luxury brands face
Long research journeys. Engagement rings, anniversary gifts and investment pieces involve weeks of reading. Most searches along the way are questions, not product searches, so education content does a lot of the work.
AI Overviews answer simple questions. Many jewellery questions, such as what a carat is or which anniversary is which, now get answered on the results page. Education pages have to offer more than a definition to keep earning clicks.
Rankings that don’t turn into clicks. A page can rank well and still earn few clicks if its title or snippet doesn’t display properly or doesn’t appeal. On luxury sites, where search titles are often generated by templates, this is common.
Tone matters. Luxury buyers respond to expertise and confidence, not pressure or discounts. Content has to sound like the brand.
Technical complexity. Many luxury brands run headless or custom builds for design reasons, which means sitemaps, metadata and rendering need specifying rather than being handled by a theme.
How I approach it
| Area | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Education content | Guides that answer buyers’ questions with genuine expertise, and rewrites of pages losing visibility |
| Titles and metadata | Finding high-impression pages with few clicks, and fixing titles that don’t display properly |
| Gifting and occasion searches | Content for anniversaries, milestones and gifts, linked to relevant collections |
| AI search visibility | Researching which sources AI Overviews cite, and writing answers worth quoting |
| Technical foundations | Sitemaps, rendering and canonicals, especially on headless builds |
| Paid and organic together | Search Intelligence analysis joining Google Ads and Search Console data |
| Tools | Sizing tools that help people buy the right size first time |
Results for Kwiat
| Measure | Past 12 months |
|---|---|
| Impressions | 9,291,582 |
| Clicks | 55,410 |
| Search terms in the top three | 305 |
| Search terms on page one | 1,593 |
Figures are from Google Search Console for kwiat.com, 15 September 2025 to 14 September 2026.
Kwiat’s guide to the Ashoka cut earned 690 clicks from a single search in the past 12 months, and Google’s US AI Overview for “what is an ashoka cut diamond” cites it twice. When Search Console showed 20 education pages losing impressions, largely to AI Overviews and improving competitors, those pages were rewritten with deeper content, quotable answers and full FAQs. Joining the data also found high-impression pages earning very few clicks because their search titles showed template placeholders instead of page names.
The Kwiat case study covers the full strategy, and the Kwiat migration case study covers the SEO work around its move to a headless Shopify build.

FAQ
How can a jeweller compete with large retailers in Google?
By owning the questions buyers ask before they purchase. Detailed, expert guides on stones, metals, settings, sizing and occasions give an established jeweller an advantage large marketplaces rarely match. Commercial collection pages that explain choices clearly, and titles that earn the click, turn that visibility into visits.
Do AI Overviews affect jewellery searches?
Yes, particularly simple questions such as what a term means or which anniversary is which. Pages that only define a term tend to lose clicks. Pages that add expertise, comparisons, imagery and help choosing are more likely to be cited and still earn visits from people ready to go further.
Is headless commerce bad for SEO?
No, but it moves responsibility onto the build. On a headless site, sitemaps, metadata, canonicals and whether content appears in the page HTML all depend on how it’s developed. Specified and checked properly, a headless luxury site can perform very well in search.
