When Google answers a question with an AI Overview, it names a handful of sources and sometimes a product or business. Being one of them puts you in front of people before they’ve scrolled to a single ordinary result. This service finds where you appear in Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, improves the pages behind the searches that matter, and tracks your citations over time.
Ranking first underneath an AI Overview that answered the question already is not the win it used to be.
What this service covers
Google AI Overviews visibility is the work of getting your pages used and linked as sources in the AI-generated summaries Google shows at the top of many searches, and in AI Mode, its conversational search experience. It covers measuring where you appear today, understanding why competitors are cited instead, improving the pages involved, and tracking the change.
Google’s documentation on AI features is clear that there are no additional requirements or special optimisations for AI Overviews or AI Mode. To be shown as a supporting link, a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet. The same documentation notes that meeting the requirements doesn’t guarantee a page will be shown. So the work is good SEO, applied with a close eye on how these answers choose and quote their sources.
A real result
Search Google in the UK for “best garage door threshold seal” and the AI Overview opens by naming GaraDry’s threshold seal kit, with GaraDry’s site ranking number one in the results underneath. That’s the combination this service aims for: named in the answer, and first in the results. The full story is in the GaraDry case study.
Who it’s for
This suits businesses whose customers research before buying, and whose important searches now show AI Overviews. It’s especially worth looking at if:
- impressions in Search Console are rising while clicks stay flat
- you’ve searched your own key questions and seen competitors named instead of you
- your informational pages used to bring in visits and now bring in fewer
- you sell products people compare, such as “best”, “vs” and “which is right for” searches
Warning signs
| What you might notice | What it can mean |
|---|---|
| Rankings steady, clicks falling on question-style searches | AI Overviews may be answering the question on the results page |
| Competitors named in AI Overviews for your products | Their pages explain the subject more clearly or are more widely referenced |
| Your page cited, but with an outdated or wrong detail | The AI Overview is quoting old or unclear content on your site |
| No AI Overview citations for your key searches | Pages may lack a clear answer, or not be indexed or snippet-eligible |
What’s included
1. An AI Overview visibility check. A fixed set of searches that matter to your business, checked in Google’s UK results. For each one, I record whether an AI Overview appears, whether your site is cited or your business named, and who’s cited instead. AI answers vary, so searches are checked more than once.
2. A page-by-page review. For the searches where you should be cited and aren’t, the pages behind them are reviewed against what the cited sources do better: a direct answer near the top, clear structure, accurate detail, named expertise, structured data and whether the page is indexed and snippet-eligible.
3. Improvements. Recommendations for each page, or the rewrites themselves: answer passages written to be quoted cleanly, clearer product and service explanations, FAQs and structured data, plus fixes for anything stopping the page being used.
4. Tracking. The same searches rechecked on a schedule, alongside Search Console and Google Analytics, so you can see citations change over time rather than relying on one screenshot.
How the work runs
- Agree the searches that matter, from your products, services and Search Console data
- Run the visibility check and record the baseline
- Review the pages behind the gaps
- Improve the pages, starting with the searches closest to earning money
- Recheck and report, then repeat for the next set of searches
What you get
- A baseline report showing where you appear, where you don’t, and who’s cited instead, with screenshots and dates
- Prioritised page recommendations, or rewritten sections ready to publish
- Ongoing tracking of AI Overview citations, if you choose it, reported alongside your normal search figures

Limitations
AI Overviews change often. The same search can show a different answer from one day to the next, and Google decides when to show an AI Overview at all. That’s why results are recorded with dates and rechecked, and why no one can honestly guarantee a citation. Being cited can also mean fewer clicks on simple questions, because the answer is on the page, so the work focuses on the searches where being named or linked leads somewhere valuable.
What this won’t solve
If a site has serious technical problems, such as pages not being indexed, those need fixing first through a technical SEO audit. If your pages don’t have the expertise or detail to be the best answer, that’s content work, covered by content strategy. And this service covers Google specifically. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot are covered by ChatGPT and AI assistant visibility.

Engagement and price
There are no list prices here, and that is deliberate. What a piece of work costs depends on the state of the site, how much of it there is and what you actually need, none of which I know before looking at it.
So it starts with a free analysis. I look at your site, your Search Console and who you are really competing with, then come back with what I would do first and what it would cost to do. No obligation attached, and if the honest answer is that you do not need me yet, I will say so.

FAQ
What are Google AI Overviews?
AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that Google shows at the top of some search results, answering the question directly and linking to the web pages they draw on. Google’s AI Mode goes further, handling longer, conversational searches. Both use pages from Google’s search index as their sources.
How do I get my website cited in AI Overviews?
Start with the basics Google requires: the page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet. Then make it the clearest, most useful answer to the question, with a direct answer near the top, genuine expertise, accurate detail and structured data. There’s no paid route or special tag.
Can I stop Google using my content in AI Overviews?
You can limit it, with trade-offs. Google’s documentation explains that nosnippet and related controls restrict how content appears in search features, including AI Overviews, but they also limit normal snippets. For most small businesses, being cited is more valuable than being left out, so blocking isn’t usually advisable.
Do AI Overviews reduce clicks to websites?
They can for some searches. When an AI Overview fully answers a simple question, fewer people may need to click, which often shows as impressions rising while clicks stay flat. Searches where people need to compare, buy or get detailed help still send visits, especially to the sources the Overview cites.
